Ravi Teja, also known as Mass Maharaja, has returned with his latest offering, Ravanasura, an action-packed thriller directed by Sudheer Varma and featuring a talented ensemble cast. The creators have made it clear that the movie will astonish viewers with its unexpected plot twists and jarring moments, and have kept the story under wraps. Now, it’s time to see if the film lives up to the buzz it has generated.
In the movie, Ravindra (played by Ravi Teja) is a junior lawyer working for Kanaka Mahalaxmi (portrayed by Faria Abdullah), a well-known criminal lawyer. One day, Harika (played by Megha Akash) approaches Kanaka Mahalaxmi to take on a murder case in which her father (played by Sampath Raj) is the prime suspect. Ravindra, who is smitten with Harika at first sight, implores Kanaka Mahalaxmi to handle the case. As the investigation progresses, the police discover that multiple murders have occurred in the same manner. Who is the perpetrator behind these killings? How is Harika’s father linked to the crimes? What motivates the killer? And what is the connection between the victims? All of these questions are answered in the film.
Once again, Ravi Teja has showcased his talent in his latest film, delivering an outstanding performance. At the start of the movie, we witness Ravi Teja’s trademark entertaining persona, but soon after, his character undergoes a significant transformation, keeping the audience intrigued. Portraying a grey-shaded role is not an easy feat, but Ravi Teja brings out the best in himself, delivering a convincing performance that will undoubtedly delight his fans. His portrayal of the menacing character is exceptional, and a few of his scenes are sure to elicit a standing ovation.
The first half of the film boasts an enjoyable combination of comedy and thrilling elements. The plot picks up momentum following Sushanth’s entrance, and the film’s developments will keep the audience hooked. Although the interval point is decent, it leaves one with the impression that the second half will contain some fascinating aspects.
Sushanth’s character receives substantial screen time, and he delivers an impressive performance. The film features five female characters, each of whom performs adequately in their respective roles. In terms of plot, Megha Akash has a more prominent role, and her acting is commendable.
Despite the pre-release buzz, the film fails to live up to its expectations. The promotion of the movie portrayed it as having a never-before-seen concept, but the actual twist, which emerges in the second half, is quite typical. It is a plot that has been used in many previous films, and there is nothing novel about it.
As the movie progresses, the pace slows down, and the events become predictable after a certain point. There are no shocking moments as promised during the promotions, and the songs serve as speed bumps, impeding the movie’s flow.
The lack of logic in the film is a significant drawback, which is critical in thrillers. Despite Ravi Teja’s excellent acting, there is insufficient substance in the plot to hold the audience’s attention throughout.
Harshavardhan Rameshwar and Bheems Ceciroleo’s background score is outstanding, adding an extra layer of depth to several scenes. Vijay Karthik’s cinematography is impressive, appropriately capturing the film’s genre. The editing is acceptable, and the production values are well-maintained.
However, director Sudheer Varma’s execution of the film is unremarkable. The story by Srikanth Vissa is ordinary, but the creators attempted to give it a fresh twist with Ravi Teja’s character. Sudheer Varma’s screenplay in the first half succeeds in keeping the audience engaged, but the second half’s pacing is erratic and disjointed, detracting from the movie’s overall impact.
Overall, Ravanasura is a crime thriller that manages to hold one’s interest to some extent, thanks to Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja’s performance. The actor’s character has various shades, and the first hour of the film is captivating. However, the execution of the second half is lackluster, and the primary twist is underwhelming. While the film is worth watching, it’s advisable not to expect anything innovative.
