Jailed criminal Raja Pandey and his accomplices had hatched a conspiracy to murder a contractual employee of education department earlier in March
District police will soon invoke the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act or the Gangsters Act against notorious criminal Raja Pandey and his accomplices for their alleged involvement in a murder. Pandey, in his 40s, is presently lodged in Fatehgarh jail and the police have arrested seven others in connection with the recent murder of a contractual employee of education department after it came to fore that Pandey hatched the murder conspiracy from jail.
Police officials said efforts were also on to arrest Raja Pandey’s father, brother and brother-in-law for their alleged involvement in murder conspiracy. SP trans Yamuna Saurabh Dikshit said the Gangsters Act will be slapped after the arrest of all the accused involved in the murder. Action will also be taken on their illegal properties. Role of a police sub-inspector named in the FIR was also under scanner, he added.
A resident of Karchhana area, Mangla Prasad Pandey, in his 40s, was a contractual employee at education department. On March 10, he was returning home when he was allegedly abducted and later brutally murdered by some miscreants. Investigations revealed that Pandey’s father Lalta Prasad was gunned down by Raja Pandey in 2018.
Mangla Prasad was pursuing the case and Raja feared that he could be sentenced in the murder. Police arrested Raja Pandey’s father-in-law and six other accused allegedly hired for killing Mangala Prasad. Police are now tightening the noose around Raja Pandey who hit the headlines after he allegedly killed SHO Bara Rajendra Prasad Dwivedi in 2012. Since then, his name surfaced in many heinous crimes including murder and extortion. Police are also carrying out probe into illegally earned properties of these criminals besides scanning bank account details of Raja and his kin.

Humiliated by an Aam Aadmi Party supporter and his aides, a 68-year-old trader ended his life at his shop on Link Road, Gill Chowk. The family members came to know about the incident on Thursday morning when they reached the shop. The victim, in a suicide note, accused his neighbour, who is an AAP supporter, and four others of humiliating him. Their aide is yet to be identified.
Cracking down on inefficient and corrupt employees, the Jammu and Kashmir administration headed by lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday ordered premature retirement of five officials of the housing and urban development department. Divisional town planner Farzana Naqshbandi was found involved in a number of cases involving violation of building permission norms/illegal construction and corruption. On Wednesday, the J&K administration had sacked five employees including two police constables for alleged terror links.
Struggling to meet its recovery targets, Ludhiana municipal corporation sealed six properties, including two liquor vends, a bank and two shops falling under Zone B, for defaulting on property tax payment, on Thursday, the last day of the financial year. As per officials, the properties are situated on Shingar Cinema Road, Sector 32, Chandigarh Road and Sundar Nagar area. Currently, the department is focussing on recovery of principal amount of ₹2.55 crore.
Civil surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur directed doctors to not prescribe medicines which are available at outside chemist shops, saying patients should be given medicines from the hospital pharmacy itself. She added that emergency teams and kits should be ready in ambulances at all times. The civil surgeon was apprised of the progress of various health programs and plans including maternal and child health services, immunisation, opioid assisted treatment clinics. Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kulwant Singh assured that the AAP government would rectify the situation.
